What a busy week! We ended May with #DurhamPride, and it was fantastic to meet so many of you who are a part of or supporting the #LGBTQIA+ community!
Stamp It Out (SIO) was overjoyed to be a part of such a special celebration. We were able to spread awareness of the #stigma and #discrimination the LGBTQIA+ population have faced over the generations, and play our part to stop hateful negativity and celebrate every individual!
Our SIO stall had a lot to offer, we had around 150 conversations during the event! Our Anti-Stigma Ambassadors were thrilled to share our message with so many people!
#DurhamPride could explore our Stigma Wall which accepted all stigmatising words, phrases, or stories which came to everyone’s mind.
It gave an opportunity to show how prevalent stigma is in our society and enabled people to connect and resonate with similar experiences. Towards the end of the event, we 'broke down the wall' by removing the terms and explaining the barriers they hold, promoting positive behavioural changes around negative societal believes.
Those who visited our stall took away a SIO goody bag filled with leaflets, our Anti-Stigma Kid comics, conversation starter resources and other SIO merch to encourage people to challenge mental health stigma and discrimination!
Lastly, we promoted our very first #StampItOut competition before #DurhamPride, a great opportunity to get locals to enter!
