Top tips on looking after your mental wellbeing this winter

Throughout the month of December, we wanted to share some top tips on how to look after your wellbeing this winter. Inspired by MindWell Leeds, we gathered some useful guidance to help you through these colder months.

Firstly, it is important that you keep to a daily routine. The winter period can often make us unmotivated. By sticking to your usual routines, your day will be more structured, reducing the impact the colder months can have on your mental health.

Our next tip was to try and get outside for some sunlight and some exercise. By being outside for at least 20 minutes a day, your mental wellbeing will significantly improve. This is most important when working from home, or if you are spending more time indoors than usual.

Another useful piece of advice is to stay connected to your loved ones. Catching up with your friends and family on the phone, online, or even in person, can significantly reduce feelings of loneliness.

Last, but certainly not least, our final piece of guidance is to ask for help when needed. It is incredibly important to reach out for help when you are struggling. Call NHS 111 and select the mental health option, if you feel unsafe or distressed. Alternatively, you can call the Samaritans on 116 123.

We hope our guidance will support you through the tough winter months. For more tips and information on how to look after yourself this month, visit: https://www.mindwell-leeds.org.uk/myself/looking-after-your-wellbeing/mindwells-top-ten-tips-for-winter-wellbeing/
